Hi, I’m Tim Self.
I’m a husband, father, nonprofit leader, and proud Andersonian. My wife, Elizabeth, and I have called Anderson home for more than a decade, and today we’re raising two children in Anderson School District Five.
I’ve spent my career bringing people together around a common purpose; building trust, strengthening organizations, and helping communities turn good ideas into meaningful action.
Now, I’m ready to bring that experience to the Anderson School District Five Board of Trustees.
My Approach
Kids should be at the center of every decision.
I believe strong communities — and strong schools — are built when people trust one another, listen to different perspectives, and stay focused on a shared purpose.
For more than two decades, I’ve worked alongside boards, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, donors, educators, healthcare professionals, and community partners. That experience has taught me that lasting progress doesn’t come from one person having all the answers. It comes from bringing good people together and giving them the opportunity to do their best work.
Kids Above Politics
Every decision should begin and end with one question:
Is this in the best interest of our students?
Our children deserve leaders willing to put their education, opportunities, and future ahead of politics.
Great Governance
Strong boards establish vision, set policy, ensure accountability, responsibly steward resources, and empower talented professionals to do the jobs they were hired to do.
Great schools require great governance.
Faith & Service
Faith has shaped Tim’s understanding of service, responsibility and our obligation to care for others.
Tim accepted Christ as a high school student in Tennessee and was later baptized. During college, he became involved in the Micah 6:8 Ministry, mentoring and tutoring juvenile offenders through a local jail outreach. The ministry’s call to pursue justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God helped shape Tim’s understanding of servant leadership.
That commitment continued through four years of youth ministry, mission work with children and families, and later through his work with Holston United Methodist Home for Children.
Since moving to Anderson in 2015, Tim and his family have been active members of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. Tim is involved in the church’s Youth and Scouting Ministries and serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 234 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Across different churches, denominations and communities, one principle has remained constant for Tim: faith calls us to serve.
